(MOUNT VERNON, NY / The Journal) — After-school clubs for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year will now have more of a variety. First announced on Tuesday, January 21st, after the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday weekend, the weekly Friday clubs will be a mix of returning and new topics with the same being said of their teacher advisers. They will start at 3:00pm and end at either 4:00 or 4:30pm, which has not been confirmed yet by the administration.

Mr. Palij will continue to do the Robotics club, while Mr. Smith (social studies) will continue advising a Friday club, which will be the Engineering club. There is no explanation as of now if that Engineering club will be based on Project Lead The Way's Engineering curriculum, however, Mr. Smith is one of the building's two PLTW Engineering instructors, alongside Earth Science teacher Mr. Pollard. The teacher-sponsored Anime & Game club that Mr. Smith and Mr. Palij advise will now be moved to Mondays, from 3:00 to 4:00pm.

Mr. Smith's podcasting club from last year, however, will continue under a new adviser, English teacher Mr. Middleton, while the rest of the new clubs will be led by the following teachers:

GIRLS WHO CODE — Ms. Dempsey (Chemistry)

HORTICULTURE — Mr. Pufahl (PLTW Biomedical Science)

MAKER SPACE — Mr. Murawski (Physics, Environmental Science)

The Journal spoke to Ms. Abbey, vice principal of student affairs, on the day the news was announced. "They're great! We knew that students wanted things to do after-school, and as a STEAM school, we tried to find clubs that would work with what we're doing."
